What I wore to Prezzo with pals...

To reiterate, this is what I wore out to lunch today. To Prezzo. With pals. I spent most of the walk to the restaurant and back trying to keep the short, flippy skirt of this Max C dress from flying up, to varying degrees of success! It's only when I am flashing my undies to passersby via my translucent footless tights that I remember I really bloody need some new leggings.

If I had the money, I would love to go around every clothes shop and buy a new pair of leggings to put to the test. Just wear them constantly and see how long they take to go hole-y and fall to pieces. I really think the world needs this kind of research. H&M, Topshop and American Apparel have failed me in the leggings department this year and I am seriously losing my patience! If I wanted crotchless leggings, I would've just gone here (follow link for most disturbing product sell-line of all time...)

Enough about crotches. I'm wearing a Max C dress, Jonathan Aston footless tights, H&M belt, Topshop pleather jacket, and some sunnies I found at uni. Finders, keepers!

Sooo, I'm graduating *with a first!* tomorrow at 11am. My poor sod of a mother has to catch the 7.09 train from Bexhill to get here in time to drive to graduation, so I am looking forward to a day of kicking her awake and quite possible having my magical moment collecting my certificate at the stand being rudely interrupted by deafening snoring. Anything could happen!

I will update at the earliest opportunity, chums, but right now, I have a date with Undercover Boss, some reduced Yum Yums from Sainsburys and a bag of salted popcorn. My diet has gone into free-fall and I am loving every bite of it.

Until we next speak, please feel free to share any recommendations you have for good quality leggings?

  2. Bit naff, but have you tried good old M&S? I have some from their Limited Collection that I've worn under dresses for three summers now and they're still going strong! Monsoon and Next have done me well too - weirdly, leggings are the only things I've bought from either of those shops in years.

  3. Phase Eight do AMAZING leggings! Had mine two years and they haven't gone patchy, see-through or baggy and I've got loads more pairs since :) they're £20 and you can find them in Debs or HOF! Hope that helps lovely :) congrats on the first! xxx

  4. Congratulations on your graduations, I'm graduating on Friday, I'm so nervous, the idea of being so obvious in heals in front of all those people makes me feel slightly ill.

I've found either New Look or Primark (surprisingly) good for leggings, nice and stretchy, last quite a long time and not to thick, which is what I personally find H&M's to be :)

  5. Love the dress and congrats on graduating! Although this doesn't sound like the best suggestion, I have found matalan's leggings are pretty good! They're nice and not see through and they last for quite a while! x

  6. The best leggings i've found are from Miss Selfridge. 5 years later and they're only just starting to go holey and worn.

  7. I think Wallis, Principles and Warehouse leggings and jeggings are awesome and long-lasting. For some reason I always find cheap ones in the sales at Wallis and Principles, maybe coz they're granny shops but most grannies don't wear (l/j)eggings? I've had pairs from Topshop and River Island fall apart way too quickly too, so annoying. Congrats on the first, enjoy your graduation xx

  8. Crotchless tights. Possibly the most disturbing thing I've ever laid my eyes on.

  9. congratulations! Leggings pretty much fail me anyway. Having long legs means I can never find any that fit properly. It's so frustrating.

  10. 'very hygenic and cool to wear' HAHAHA omg.

    GROSS.

Love the dress. And am watching the post carefully as I too have spent more money on crap leggings than I care to mention.

Good luck on the graduation tomorrow lovely, and again so happy for you! Congrats x

  11. Seconding the suggestion of M&S for leggings, mine have lasted for ages, and they keep their shape so well, too (unlike my Zara/Fat Face/H&M ones, which all seem to get baggy knee syndrome after about half an hour!)

Congrads on your graduation! Hope it all goes well.

  13. My primark ones have lasted me the longest believe it or not! But they're not completely opaque. I have some super thick Topshop ones that are great and the only non-see-through ones I've found, but they're not very summer appropriate! They were £18-£20 i think but well worth it x

  14. Love those shades, great find! Congrats on the first! I have no idea what to wear to my Graduation next week! x

  16. hahaha that crotchless tights thing is hilarious! Hygienic and fresh? Hmmm... My graduation is on Thursday, I am not looking forward to the early start!

  17. actually adore your jacket, i've been keeping an eye on one on the Topshop website but I just can't afford it at £75 being a penniless student.
for leggings, i swear by my pair from urban outfitters. for £12 they are a steal as they are still going strong after a year without any problems. just the same as when they were brand new :)

  18. Love this, the print is so lovely :)
oh the whole legging thing does my head in!!! I agree with H&M and Topshop, Primark ones were also awful (not sure what I expected) My mum lent me some Matalan ones, and they're not too bad. Although I got some 'be beau' ones from there, and also- not on the greats list!
I've heard I need to check out m&s and also dorathy perkins ones-FYI!
Yay for graduating! Looking forward to seeing what you are wearing- huge well done on the first x

  19. gorgeous outfit! h&m leggings are the worst. i got a pair and i dont think they lasted a month.

  20. Congrats on the first!! M&S do some really good leggings, they're actually hard to come by they're that good! None of that half see-through malarky or ripping at the seams, the best I've had so far x

  21. You look gorge, Gem, I love those little skater skirted dresses, super flattering but butt-skimming: yes. My New Look leggings have lasted me absolutely ages so far (: Hope your graduation goes swimmingly tomorrow! So proud of you :') xx

  22. I don't think anyone has ever created good quality leggings, it's disappointing really when they are a core wardrobe staple.

Anyway rant over. . .hope your graduation goes wonderfully

  23. I don't agree with "finders keepers". I lost a Topshop bag whilst out shopping yesterday and no one handed it in. Whoever found it obviously had the "finders keeps idea". Not very nice for the one who lost it!

  24. I don't wear leggings very often but in terms of a good fit, Asda/George are the best I've had, they're tight but not too restricting, like a big leg-hug. F+F at Tesco were all saggy and I didn't like the fabric. And I had some New Look ones rip apart at the crotch seams, totally not cool!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mmmm Prezzos. Such a cute look. I actually have most my leggings from New Look, but because of the discount! They work okay for me, particularly the navy ones.

  26. Thanks for the comments, guys!! Loads of great leggingspiration, there! Seems to me that M&S is a good bet... I actually have an exchange to do there, so am going to investigate it!

Thanks for the congratulations, too. I'm kinda excited, but nervous something's going to go wrong!!

Natalie - I totally agree with you. I probably should've explained better, they had been left in the same place for ages in a computer room, and one day I just grabbed them. I was a naive first year!! I am a decent person, honestly. I found a cash-filled wallet the other day in a shop and handed that baby in!

    ReplyDelete
  27. hope graduation goes well tomorrow, how exciting! the best leggings i have tried are actually George at Asda, hugely recommend them xx

  28. Love this dress! I have the same problem when wearing short flippy dresses haha. I have VILA leggngs off asos and after about 6 months they're still good! H&M/Topshop and Wallis have all either gone see through for me, lost their stretch or got holes in! x

    ReplyDelete
  29. Uniqlo does the best leggings and is in the mid-price range. Also they do amazing sales.

Good luck with graduation. Do you have to wear a gown? I did for mine, and accidentally ordered it to be 5'4" long (my height - the website was confusing) and spent most of the day flapping around like something from Harry Potter!

    K xx

  30. A first! how exiciting :)
I have had a few good pairs from asda and tesco, the really light jersey ones seem to last the best. Arcada DP/Topshop ones are rubbush xx

  31. Massive congrats on the first and I hope you have a brilliant day tomorrow!

I had a really good pair of Warehouse leggings that lasted me for aaaages (literally about 2 years- good as gold) but they've now gone all thin round the knees and are now holey. I bought another pair relatively recently but their build quality has gone the way of the, err, pear. So all in all, I suppose I'm not contributing anything towards helping you find a decent pair! I've been leaning more towards the 100000 denier black tights in the last year or so, espesh over winter, but you obv can't wear cool socks with those without going up a shoe size. I better sleep! N'night x

  32. Crotchless tights as if they even exist. You look lush. Eee i am graduating tomorrow to, so many mixed emotions. X

  33. I love how you've paired that cute dress with a leather jacket to 'toughen up' the look :) And I know what you mean about leggings, they last a ridiculously short time! :(

  34. The dress is lovely, and the whole outfit looks great.
I never had leggings ripping in the crotch but they get worn down and just look terrible, I wish there were some truly wear-proof, but I doubt it, unless they have some fake leather bands on the inner tights.

    ReplyDelete
  35. eeek graduation! i have to go to my brothers next week and have no idead what to wear!

for leggings I've found that matalans are the best so far and for £6 you can't really go wrong! you can't see your knickers through them its great!

    ReplyDelete
  36. woo hoo for graduation!

I'm such a leggings snob. My favourites are from Mint Velvet, really quite pricey but dear lord do they last.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Due to permenant skintness I usually go for primark leggings despite them being terrible, It makes me cringe when I see girls in t shirts and Primark leggings that have clearly gone see through. Not that I'm a bum watcher or anything but they're always on full show.

I had a pair of Miss Selfridge ones that were pricey but rather good, I took the plunge and bought another pair a bit back but my pesky cat jumped on my airer and made little claw marks in them so I can't really judge - making this a pointless comment really!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I actually have some from Topshop that have lasted 2 or 3 years. Perhaps they made them better then? I have some from Dorothy Perkins but they have not held up so well. Congrats on your graduation! Enjoy it!x

    ReplyDelete
  39. Have a fantastic time at your graduation! I'm sure your Mum won't mind an early start at all, she must be so proud of your amazing degree!!

  40. hahaha at eloise' comment re: being a bum-watcher.

Leggings - i have to admit that i tend to buy mine from primark, but i have had pairs from there which have lasted AGES and others which haven't lasted more than one wash, so i do think they are v hit and miss..

    ReplyDelete
  41. My leggings from George@Asda always last me forever! Try those, I think they're only like £6 or something?
    xxxxxxx

  42. I don't even want to click the link. Who would think that was a great idea?

I had a pair from H&M that I loved, with zips up the side, that have literally lasted a whole year of wear, until the last week when they've just fallen to pieces and gone see-through really quickly. I'm on the hunt for a good quality pair too!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Congratulations on graduating! Maybe you could give your mom a caffeine pill? I don't have a lot of luck with leggings. Actually, I don't really wear them at all because I don't have any of those long tops/tunics and since I'm a midget my skirts usually aren't too short either. The ones I do have are from Forever 21. They've held up nicely and they were only like $3.50 or something (which is pocket change in GBP!)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow, congrats on the first! I have the same problem with leggings. I’ve yet to find the ‘perfect pair’ so I compensate by having about 10 pairs from various shops and alternating them so they don’t wear out as fast. As for Crotchless tights… bleurgh, what a bizarre invention! I definitely won’t be clicking on that link! :')

    ReplyDelete
  45. Congratulations on your first! Hope you have had THE best day.
I too am watching this conversation unfold with interest. Dorothy Perkins and New Look are on my leggings hate list at the mo! x

    ReplyDelete
  46. Pleeeease do that legging research, I totally feel your pain. New Look produced the longest lasting pair I've found so far, but that's not saying much. Well done on the first, that's amazing :)

  47. I LOVE and I mean LOVE the leggings from Wallis, the one's i get have a nice big waistband so they dont slice you in half - very important!
If memory serves me correct they are about £15 a pair, but the ones I bought last summer are still perfect.

  48. Love this outfit, the print of the dress is gorge! Clicked on that link for the lols and some of the product reviews people had left were to say the least..disturbing. Also congrats on graduating with a first!!

  55. My friend recommended next leggings to me..I'e bought some recently and they seem quite thick. I've washed them a couple of times and they seem to be doing well. Miss selfridge used to be good but i bought a pair a few months ago and they went see through after the first wash...not a good look!!
