Video blog: 5-step daily makeup routine/reviews

Ever wondered how I go from looking like a ball-bag in the morning to looking fairly normal?

Whilst I was without my camera in Scotland, I made a video of the 5 products I use in my daily make up routine! It's sort of a tutorial and review of all products used. I'd only just woken up so I'm a bit groggy and hayfevery!

It only really hit me whilst editing it that I will be sharing my naked face and various unsightly makeup 'faces' with you... Slight cringe! Oh well, here goes...

Products used:

- Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Shell
- Collection 2000 Skin Perfecting Minerals in No. 2 Honey (Blog review here) (Think it's discontinued now!)
- Maybelline black Gel eyeliner
- Topshop cream blusher in Flush (Blog review here)
- Rimmel Day 2 Night Mascara in Black

Hope you enjoy the vid. Let me know if there are any more tutorials or reviews you'd like me to film! I actually find doing video blogs quite fun, but I thought nobody was that bothered about watching them... Where do you stand? Text or vid?

  1. Can't say I've ever thought you looked like a ball-bag, but that opening sentence made me proper LOL! I've never been able to use liquid eye-liner, but may give it a go now I've seen a pro do it!! Also brightened up my morning after a night of mental dreams that involved maggot-ridden bananas, witches and a LOTR-like battle scene. VERY BIZARRE! x x L8rz x

  2. Yours are the only videos I actually watch, and this is not one to disappoint either! Great video x

  3. You are a real natural in front of the camera, I loved the video! Totally agree about MAC's eyeliner, I stopped using it because it kept drying up in the pot. I had to throw one out that was only half used which made me mad because it wasn't cheap! Cx

  4. I really enjoy videos, it's quite fun to hear people speaking!

I'm kind of in awe of that liquid liner. I've never been able to apply it, but now I'm tempted to give it a go with my eyes open!

  5. Thank you for sharing this- videos like this really appeal to my nosy side! I think that's part of why I enjoy following blogs like this because it's refreshing to see 'normal' girls who don't have endless budgets and find out what products they like and how they use them etc.

  6. I completely agree about the Double Wear ! I got some expecting it to be unreal, and it does cover well, but I just feel like I'm wearing a mask! I don't think it's appropriate for summer. Covers all freckles and nice facial marks as well as spots. Love your vids xxx

  7. Loved the video! You should definitely do more, it was very entertaining :)
I really want to try that eyeliner now, you've made it look so easy to apply!

  9. 'BITCH!' ahahhahaah that was funny, but I am confused as to how good the foundation really is if it makes you look embarrassingly ghostly. I think I might go any purchase the maybelline eyeliner now as it looks so easy to apply. Do you ever use eyeliner pens? They're usually quite good, however all the ones I have ever used smudge by the end of the day and/or go slightly grey. How hard is it to find an opaque black?! Your running commentary provided many giggles and I'd love to see more videos although you shouldn't abandon text altogether! :)

  10. I really like video blogs sometimes, I think it helps the reader get to know the blogger more because you can see how they talk and their body language etc etc, does that make sense? And you're very funny!
I've never thought about applying liquid eyeliner with an open eye before, although I do sometimes have trouble with the closed eye, and yes, I guess it's not a good idea to have your eye skin pulled about, it'll lose its elasticity! xxx

  11. I've been using that mascara... and before this video I would have put my life on it that there is two brushes?? How did I not notice that there was only one brush?? haha!

Think I'm gonna invest in that cream blush, looks a really nice colour!

  14. Your accent is bloody incredible, I love it! I think I'll pick up that foundation, my skin is practically translucent it's so pale - I'm Irish, so what do you expect haha! Loved this video anyways, you should do more! I always post videos with my blog posts too, makes them even more fun :) x

  15. I wear Double Wear in shell too! Yes to the pasteys! I find I always look like Frosty the Snowman in photos anyway, so I've not noticed a big difference. And I've got oily skin so don't have a problem with dryness with it - don't think I could wear any other foundation now!

  16. I love your videos, you should definitely do some more!
I think I should get my eyeliner tattooed on too, it would save me so much time in the mornings! I'm using Double Wear Light foundation at the moment and would really recommend it - it still gives great coverage but is a lot less heavy and more natural looking than the original Double Wear.

  18. you totes don't ever look like a ballbag, ever! I want to try all those products now, esp the eye liner (i might also get them tattooed on...) I'd been using the Mac fluid liner too but you're right, it's not very black and it's a too dry. Shall try the maybeline one soon! x

  20. Hey, thats a really good idea... great video! I don't think I could ever do a video like this as I am from Birmingham and my accent is ridiculously brutal and strong! I don't think you look bad btw!

  21. It´s so refreshing to see a blogger doing a completely basic makeup routine. I always feel like everyone´s using so many different products in huge quantities and then yay, your routine is pretty simple, basic and all about flawless sking and big eyes and I like that a lot. You look gorgeous x

  22. Apparently it is something to do with the SPF in the Doublewear that gives you the ghostly look.. it bounces back with the flash on or something. As someone suggested, maybe try the Doublewear light for the summer if you are finding the full stuff a bit heavy! I know what you mean about the MAC Fluidline- I just bought an Urban Decay liquid one so am doing that for now but may get the Maybelline one at some point. I cannot do it with my eyes open for the life of me but thats because my eyelashes just get in the way! I do find thats the best way though for getting rid of the patchy bits in the lash line that you can't see when your eyes are shut.

  31. Its always interesting to see people's daily make up routines, your anecdote about the waitress made me laugh! I always do my liquid eyeliner with my eyes open too, its the only way I can get close to the lash line.

  32. It's interesting to see other people put on makeup (I can never stop myself staring at girls who do it on the tube!).

I like videos and words! Maybe a mix of both?

  33. Genuinely the best video blog I have ever seen. I actually laughed out loud a few times. Loved it. Gutted when you ran out of memory. No seriously, you are hilarious, and you're the one blogger I actually get quite impatient and, well, this is embarrassing, but excited about. Your tweets also make me laugh quite a bit.
You're just one of those people who you'd just want to spend time with. Full of praise tonight haha.
I have no real preference to text or videos regarding regular posts, because I am greedy, I would say though I'd much rather them be hosted on a blog than a YouTube channel.

Again, going on and on and on I am. xx

  39. really enjoyed this video and we use a lot of the same products, even the same shade of doublewear. :) i find that mixing the double wear with a squirt of revlon photoready (i use it in 'vanilla') stops the awful ghostface and stops it from being quite as heavy on the face! xx

  43. Really liked this, although seeing someone else put on their own make-up doesn't sound that exciting at first, its interesting plus it feels more personal with the video :) Can't believe that Estee Lauder foundation your skin looks perfect with it on (and definitely not ballbag-esque with it off might I add!) Seriously considering getting some!! xx

  49. I've started using the Boots Vitamin E moisturiser. It's very cheap and has an SPF 15.
