Unfinished business

Have you ever had a piece of clothing or pair of shoes that you didn't buy at the time and have never forgotten?

I do.

The Emma Cook for Topshop creeper boots, A/W 2008.

I can't even remember why I didn't buy these originally. I think I didn't really have much money (do I ever?), and these were about £150 which seemed absurd to pay for some shoes I'd probably not be able to walk in... Plus they sold out so quickly, by the time they were on eBay they were more like £300-400.

Over the weeks, especially after seeing bloggers regularly parading in theirs, I realised how badly I wanted them. But a size 7 has never crossed my path (at an un-eye-watering price) since.

I did buy some later versions Cooky created in an attempt to fill the void, but as much as I love them, it's just not the same.

Not owning these boots is probably my biggest fashion regret.

What a downer of a post! But sometimes fashion is CRUEL. Or, in this case, I was just stingy and then missed the boat. Or should that be 'boot'?

Have you got any sartorial unfinished business?

Maybe we can read each other's comments and keep an eye out for things for each other on eBay hunts! Or maybe one of you own someone else's fashion regret and fancy selling? (Sorry if eBay is coming up linked for you. I didn't put that link there and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why it's there?! Emailing Blogger as we speak! Mysterious...)

Who knows? It would be nice for there to be a happy ending to this post,  so please share!

  4. I really wanted a Mulberry neely (any colour) but I got an over sized alexa instead and the neely got discontinued where as the alexa is still being sold, wish I'd gotten a neely so so bad! & I could have just gotten an alexa at a later date :( xx

  5. Mine is a recent FAIL. Being on the H&M website when the Hasbeens collection went live, having the gorgeous size 7 red sandals in my shopping cart and then thinking 'But will I wear them?!' and leaving the website. I go back 10 minutes later after realising they were too cute to leave behind and them all being sold out. Totally gutted. Can't bring myself to fork out £70 for them on eBay :(

  6. I really regret not getting the Topshop Caged Bralet Top but I just didn't have the money at the time :( I never come across it in a size 10 and if I do I still can't afford it because they seem to go for far more than they are worth. Ah well such is life...

  7. I feel your pain, mine was a pair of black and white Chanel courts by the time I saved up for them they had sold out, I made them ring every store in the world and not one pair left. I eventually found them in grey on ebay but still just not the same :-(

  10. The Whistles lightning bolt shirt. I couldn't afford it then and I still wouldn't be able to afford it if they suddenly got it back in now, but MAN, I wanted it. I really hoped it would go in the sale as they usually have great reductions, but it wasn't to be. I dream about finding one in a charity shop! xx

  11. When I was sixteen I desperately yearned to wear the linked Luella Bartley dress for my year eleven prom, ordinarily I would have by no means been financially able to do so but by work of luck my brother had come into a rather large sum of money that he decided to halve with me (lovelovelove him!) But by the time the money came through the dress had sold out and I was unable to get my hands on one. Sigh, I ended up going in a Barbara Hulanicki for topshop one instead, so it wasn't all so bad!
p.s. sorry for the long post and said dress: http://www.elleuk.com/catwalk/collections/luella/autumn-winter-2008/collection/luella-aw08w161-luella-london-autumn-winter-2008/(index)/0

  13. Those are beautiful and I remember them too, I was around 17 then so £150 was far too much too. I bought some aztec studded boots for £80 and regret buying them as they don't fit but I adored them so much I bought them! I need to sell them so you're right my regret might help anothers!

  14. This happens to me so often, and then when I finally cave in and decide to buy something it's gone!

I try and make myself buy things when I see them/want them and deal with the lack of funds when I'm foodless/homeless!

  15. Those exact boots are one of my all time fashion regrets too. I remember really liking them, trying them on and deciding they were a bit too clunky to walk in for the price. Still kick myself. They have held their value crazy well on ebay though. Boo. x

  16. I know the feeling! I wanted this stunning dress from Topshop, but i couldn't afford it at the time, i decided a week later that i had to have it anyway, but it was out of stock in every store i tried and wasn't on the website! I've trolled eBay so many times to find it but i never have any luck :(xxxx

  17. The Irregular Choice green suede heels with the little frog charm on :(

They were pretty reasonably priced back when they still in stock in Schuh a few years ago and I didn't buy them because I was a MORON. They pop up on ebay from time to time but because I'm a size 6 and that's a popular size, they sell for pretty much the original RRP second-hand! Grrrr.

Also the Topshop Whistlejacket horse jumper. They show up on ebay sometimes but never in a size 14 and I really doubt I can squeeze into a 12.

  18. Oh God, so many, yes! Lack of funding stopped me then! I remember a mini red handbag from Mango in 2005, still think about it! A white mini strapless dress with pink lips from Topshop. and so many more! Now I can afford it, I just buy buy buy! :P

  19. I'm pretty sure that as soon as you'll have them you'll be disappointed because with the time you overrated them :/

  20. I'm really hoping it won't be one, but there was a very cute leaf-print Dorothy Perkins dress that Got Left Behind on Wednesday...

  26. There's been tonnes of Topshop stuff that I've desperately wanted, but never bought. :( I think their prices are sometimes ridiculous. I hate being poor. Sigh. I'll just need to keep my eyes pealed for a bargain or a good Primark copy!

  28. i remember wanting these so badly and them selling out online, and then a customer came in to refund them in my size. i actually couldn't hide my excitement nor my urge to rip them out of her hands lol. i wore them every night out for 3 years straight and they're the only shoes to sit in my wardrobe so when i open the wardrobe i always think of my uni nights out :) in regards to the one that got away it's always been a beautiful sleeveless shirt dress from Whistles i tried on last year but felt guilty at the last minute and never bought :( im always searching eBay for that one!

  29. Urg I so know that feeling my most recent success story is a grey topshop dress I'm wearing here (http://stylebychinadoll.blogspot.com/2011/04/mood-elephant.html you can't see but it's got a dead simple ruffle down the side). A mate wore it for New Years Eve 2008/2009 and I remember thinking it was perfect but £50 and she already had it, and I wasn't sure I'd wear it etc..Never stopped thinking how perfect it'd be for various occasions and searched ebay loads until about a month ago it popped up! Twice! Bizarrely two people were selling it, one with a proper topshop picture, the other with a dodgy phone photo of it rumpled on the floor so the proper photo one went for £30 and I got mine for a fiver! Such a happy day. So keep those fingers crossed!xx
