Tuesday tip: French tip/half moon secret weapon

I remember hearing about this tip in school but have only just tried it out! I think it is quite a well-known technique, so forgive me if this is old news to you. But if I can share a tip that makes nail art easier for just one person, I'll be a happy bunny!

So, the secret weapon for achieving perfect half moons and french tips? Paper hole reinforcers! I got mine in Wilkinson's for about 99p.

This 'tutorial' really doesn't need a lot of explaining, except you must make sure your base colour is totally dry before sticking anything onto it.

It's best to whip the stickers off whilst the top polish is still wet, or the finish isn't as neat. Seal in with a topcoat and you're done!

My colour scheme was a bit icky. Love them separately, but not together! (Models Own Nude Beige + Top Turquoise.)

Hope you're all good, meine lieblings. I'm stressing my life away with uni work. Trying to have a positive mental attitude though... Can anyone offer some words of wisdom on reaching my deadline in time? Finding motivation so difficult right now even thought my degree is on the line! Scary shiz...

Much ♥

PS - Don't forget I'll be on SuperScrimpers tomorrow night on Channel 4 at 8.30pm! Eep!

  2. oh, cleverr!! I'd never heard this before so it wasn't old news to me, and i actually really like those colours together [probably my mint-choc-chip obsession coming to the fore again :P]
i'm losing the will to live re: uni work too - if it makes you feel any better i broke my memory stick today, so one essay seems to be lost for good...hopefully you're having better luck than me!! x

  3. I think everyone is in the same mind-frame at the moment, when it comes to exams and uni work. So if it's any consolation, we're all in the same boat! :) Just think how much the hardwork now will be worth it in the end. I'm trying to convince myself the same thing, it's not as easy as it sounds. And blogging is a BAD (but fun) distraction.

  6. That's funny, I have these same Models Own nail polishes and tried to wear them the same way - seems like a good idea, then one learns one's lesson the hard way.

  8. Another great tip, thanks. Can't wait to have a go at all this nail stuff that I've been storing up.

Tip for reaching the finish line: Count. The days, the hours, the words or the percentages. Whatever. Just count them. religiously. It's the only thing that gets me through along with an unhealthy amount of diet coke, and maybe a touch of internet shopping every now and again. Nearly there...

  11. Oooh I've never heard of this tip before, it's a brilliant idea though, I must try it out! (I have such shaky hands, trying to paint tips on is a disaster, even though I love the look!)
In terms of motivation, put pictures of things you want to achieve etc above your mirror - or anywhere that you look often to spur you on. I've recently stuck Uni pictures etc. above my mirror to motivate me to revise so I can go to said Uni!

  14. I think I love you ! I have always wanted to achieve this nail look (my aspirations in life are great... just kidding!) Cannot WAIT to do this!

I always find last minute nerves/ pressure spur me on to do well right before my deadlines but I wouldn't hang around to see if it works for you. I always try the little and often approach, make small deadlines/ things to achieve in a certain time and then have a break to paint my nails or eat tasty treats etc. YOU CAN DO IT GEM ! Molly xo

  15. Argh this is GENIUS. Now I can finally do coloured tips!
I know exactly what you mean about lack of motivation- my diss is due in just under two weeks and I just can't be arsed! Struggling to even write 500 words a day!

  16. Aaahhh such clever little templates! :) Thank you for your comment on my last post missus, I have no idea what to do with my WAH pen! Haha gonna need to look back on your old posts, I'm totally clueless! Watch this space :p You will reach your deadline lovely, just think all those years of work has been leading up to this moment (no pressure :p) But if you can just pull out a last batch of energy and plough through , it'll be over in no time! I promise ♥ xx

  17. This is such a good tipe! I have moons on my nails at the moment, which I did with a models own/wah! nail art pen, which is still tricky - this looks much easier.

  18. Hey-top tip! Who could be f###ed actually sticking those around paper holes though? Plastic wallets anyone? haha! If it's any consolation I couldn't be arsed with Uni the 1st time round so am now a month off finishing my degree at 28. Saying that though I am a manager :) Love this blog x

  19. Ok, so I'm now officially annoyed with myself. Apparently I'm a slight genius & didn't even know it..!

I'll set the scene: Saturday, in Wilkinsons, I see those paper hole reinforcer thingies. My first thought: "wow, haven't seen those for YEARS" My second thought: "hmm.. they would probably come in really handy for some easy nail art"

Y'see!? I knew! BUT, I then couldn't be bothered to queue up to pay. Hence my now being annoyed with myself..

Thank you for sharing this with us, & making me feel good for already having thought it :) even if I didn't act on it!

  21. I'd forgotten about hole reinforcers! (And their comedy potential...)

I suggest motivating yourself with malteasers. It's an old family secret. Have a bag by you, but you're only allowed to eat one every 500 words. (And if you can manage that, your discipline is good enough to get the work done!)

    K xx
