Tuesday Tip: Turn snacks into storage!

Tuesday Tips are finally back with this little gem! It's very Blue Peter!

We had some of these boxes leftover from Christmas snackage, and I decided to hang onto one and use it for storage. At first, I was going chuck all the food colouring and cake decorating bits in it and keep it in the kitchen cupboard. But then, I decided it would be way cuter to find some pretty paper and use it as a storage solution for my endless nail art supplies!

Here are the step by step pics, as if it wasn't painfully obvious how to do it... (Humour me, it's my first Tuesday Tip in yonks!!)

(Buy pretty paper - I got mine in Paperchase, measure pretty paper, glue it to the box, fill with stuff! Voila!)

These particular snack tubs aren't available to buy at the moment, but you could always use tins of biscuits or those tubs of rocky road cakes and the like from the bakery section of most supermarkets. I reckon Poundland would be the best place for a good tub rummage! I'm on the lookout for more stuff I can cover in pretty paper and use for storage, as I want to get my makeup collection under control next.

Basically, any excuse to eat snacks under the guise of being more organised is a winner in my eyes.

On the topic of nifty organising tips, Emma (Milkteef) had a cute idea for organising her makeup drawer, using old boxes!

Have you got any organising tips? I am feeling very uncharacteristically tidy at the moment, and am finding storage solutions a bit too exciting!

Hope you like the new Tuesday tip! I have heaps more to get to work on, as my Final Major Project is basically Tuesday Tips in book format. Obviously I'm rebranding it so it's not an extension of the blog as such, but just a funny collection of slightly unusual style/beauty/lifestyle tips! My tutors seem really positive about the idea, and it will give me a reason to find and try out loads more tips to share with you! Cannot wait :)

Off to catch up with the Gypsies now!

  11. If you have any old prescription bottles from the chemist laying about, you could use those to store things other than pills; depends on the size of the bottle, really.

Oh, any holiday tin is good for this, too, as they already come pre-decorated!

  12. heya, i use old perfume boxes to store all my makeup in because generally perfume boxes are so prettu... eg. the daisy and diesel boxes.

i also cut pretty paper/wallpaper but i use it on top of cabinets that are starting to look a bit shabby.. like my bedside table. looks adorable! x

  14. Love it! I'm ofrever collecting tubs and boxes - "just in case"!!
I work with kids, so you can never have too many yoghurt pots and tubs to use for keeping things in or transforming into robots etc!
My favourite tub for collecting at the moment is the Whiskas Temptations: http://www.whiskas.co.uk/our-products-snacks-and-treats-whiskas-temptations

Little purple cat-shaped tubs! We're going to turn them in to musical shakers for the kids to use!

  15. Oh Tuesday Tiips, how I've missed you! Great idea Gem, also how pretty is that paper?! Gotta love Paperchase!

If you're looking for good cheapie storage, it's worth looking in the stationary sections of shops like Wilko's or Poundland - I bought some really cute mini drawers that are probably meant for things like paperclips, but I'm using for hair accessories. They only cost a couple of quid and they're lovely! x

  24. Aww, what cute paper. I like the way the red lid matches the strawberries. I'm a sucker for cute patterns and snacks, so I'm going to give this a go even if just to justify wolfing down an entire tub of snacks in one sitting *ahem* as it will be for the good of organization.

I have a couple of cute storage tips. The first is I bought two adorable china tea cups and saucers (matching) for like £2 in a charity shop and I keep them on my dressing table to hold my earings, rings, and brooches inside the cup. I use a charity shop teapot on my desk to hold my pens.

Another is a cute keyrack from TK max I got for cheap to hang all my necklaces off.

Hope that helps in your quest for cute organization :) x

  30. Gem, you're great, I love the style of your writing ( ie last post!) and just the fun you bring to everything- even mundane things like putting a paper around the tube!:)

  31. Thanks for the mention! That pot looks SO cute, I was wondering how you were going to fit the red lid into it to still look nice. I'm a serial hoarder and can NEVER throw things away, so it's nice to be able to actually put stuff to good use! Also it keeps everything in order - although I do have an 'every day' box for all my usual bits that aren't in 'eyes' or 'lips' boxes. Just to make it a bit easier. LUV YA! XXXX

  32. Love this idea! It also sort of reminds me of the old 'using living room wallpaper to decorate high school text books' trick we all used to do ha! :) i'm new to blogging so if you check out my blog i'd really appreciate it! :) x
