Happy Monday

What a sweet thing to find in my inbox this morning:

Jazz, from Jazz Loves You More sketched my last outfit post! She sent me a truly sweet email to accompany the picture and got my day off to a happy start :)

Jazz's kind email reminded me how much I appreciate everyone that follows this blog. I feel so lucky that this blog seems to have evaded the internet 'trolls' that bring other bloggers down *TOUCH WOOD*. I don't think I've ever received a mean comment, which surprises me, as I'm a fairly curvy 10/12, making me quite the easy target for the heartless anons out there. I feel really lucky to have such a loyal and friendly community and I'm going to dedicate as much of 2011 as possible to making this blog an even more thrilling read for you all! ;)

2010 has been difficult for me, with various university and money drama preventing me from blogging to my full potential, but I have made some blog resolutions for this year which will hopefully get the blog back on track. Obviously, I have dissertation and a final major project to do before May, so my progress may be slow, but bear with me!

Blog Resolutions...

♥ The return of Tuesday Tips

I have been jotting down ideas for future tips during the TT hiatus, and am hoping to pick it up again after my dissertation hand in (end of Jan!)

♥ Comment back regularly

I really hate that I've become one of those bloggers that's 'too busy' to reply to all of my comments. I get so easily distracted when visiting all of your blogs after reading your comments, that I will often only reply to 4 or 5 blogs in a night! I have considered installing one of those comment systems like Disqus as it looks so easy to reply to comments on there, but I am not sure... I try to reply in the comment thread too but I don't think anyone checks back... Do any of you have a system for replying to comments that helps you not get ridiculously distracted? I refuse to be a skim-reader commenter: 'Luv yr dress, comment bk xxxx www.gemfatale.co.uk www.gemfatale.co.uk www.gemfatale.co.uk '.

♥ MAYBE alter the layout?

I quite like that the blog's layout is as basic as can be. I don't want the blog to look 'professional' as I don't really want the blog to become my profession... But I might add a nice header or something... And an 'about' section etc... Any other ideas for layout changes? Would you prefer something a little less no-frills?

♥ Post every other day at the very least

Self explanatory.

♥ Introduce more features

I like the idea of a bit of blog structure. I've talked to you all about a feature I'm planning to start called 'The Naughty Step' where I call out the products I've bought that don't do what they say on the tin, etc. Any other ideas for features? Maybe a regular nail tutorial post?

♥ More outfit photos

One of my IRL resolutions is to lose a bit of weight because I feel that my limitless calorie intake really affects my clothing choices. I can't wear ANYTHING that clings to my middle and as a result I constantly feel a bit frumpy. This blog is supposed to be about style, so I'm going to regain some body confidence and experiment with my style a bit more.

So, thanks for reading this blog, I hope you'll be sticking around for 2011!

Have you got any resolutions for your own blogs? I want to add more to my list!

  4. thats so kind of jazz :).

Your a lucky girl not getting hate. I would have thought you would get loads as your blog is really popular. The most popular blogs always get the most hate. I hate anonymous haters on blogs. I really don't understand how those people feel good about it. Surely hating on someone you don't even know just shows you that you are pathetic and disgusting. I would feel ashamed hating because it just shows you hate yourself and are jealous.

    Oh well rant over...

I dont think you need to change your style at all. The clothes you wear really suit you :). I love reading your blog because your images are real. You dont like stand on the streets of new york total posing in something you clearly didnt actually wear.

  7. Great goals, I think that the layout idea will probably come to you when you least expect it, and it will truly reflect you. I think layouts with a bit of character are cool as it can set you apart from other blogs with similar layouts. I like blog structure but random posts are always good too!

I've never received a negative comment either! I think what's helped you is that you're pretty genuine and honest I doubt any hater thinks they could phase you.

  11. I'm so glad you've managed to evade blog hate! Yours was the first blog I started reading regularly and I've always loved seeing your updates.

Good luck with your resolutions! I'm hoping to lose some weight this year too. I seem to have an entirely limitless carb intake. Can't wait to see more blog features too and I love the fact you've got the nerve to call out those naughty products, hopefully it'll stop others falling into the same trap.

Love the idea of your Naughty Step feature and I loved your Cat has Claws earlier this year too.

  20. This is a really great list!
    - I love your Tuesday Tips and can't wait till they're back (good luck with the last few weeks of dissertation madness! It'll feel so good when it's turned in! :D)
    - Commenting back: I don't think anyone checks back to see if the blogger has responded (I know I never remember to!) and Disqus has problems in that it takes aaaages to load. When commenting back, I open ALL of the blogs that I need to reply to. That way I can do it on and off during the day whenever I have a few minutes and I make sure it's all done before I switch my computer off at night.
    - Layout: I like clean, simple layouts too, but there are loads of bloggers that create custom-made layouts (that can be as simple or intricate as you like) so maybe you can get someone to do it for you, or at least make you a template so you can see if you like it or not.
    - I hope you're able to lose some weight, I know I feel much more confident when I'm trimmer and can wear what I like! And I'm more likely to take outfit pictures then, too. :)

  25. Hey! I've been following your blog for a while now, but I've finally set up my own google account and started my blog. I love your style, I also am a curvy size 12-14 and have those days where you long to be tall or statuesque in order to pull off some off the recent styles... But ive found your styling really works for you and have been taking a few tips! I've only done one post right now but in the next week I hope to do one on my favourite bloggers and the reasons they got me into blogging :) hope you can check it out sometime :D

  27. I know what you mean about the weight thing, so many bloggers seem to be 5"8 and size 10s, and at my 5"3 size 12/14 (want to get it back to it's previous 10/12 really!) it can feel that you are restricted to certain styles. But saying that, I think you look great, and dress your shape really well. I'm not making any proper resolutions, but more just aiming to start doing some things I've been thinking about for a while now- doing some more drawing and sewing, trying to get my arse into gear to go swimming, be a bit more organised what with my dissertation to complete as well (yikes!) I read an article in January's Elle that does seem to have had some effect on me- it was about emotional eating and I read it and realised I really am a bit ridiculous!Whether I'm sad, or happy, or hormonal, or stressed, I always eat! So hopefully that placed some seeds in my mind to stop me always reaching for the icecream!Oh dear, this is a slightly monster post, whoopsie!

  28. Such a cute sketch! I love the 'basic' look of your blog - mainly because I don't end up getting lost in all the fancy/hidden links and can actually read your posts easily :) Good luck with all your blog/real life resolutions! xx

  29. That sketch is amazing - maybe that could become part of your blog design, like on your header or something?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you & your blog bring to the table in 2011 - definitely looking forward to the 'Naughty Step' feature (is it me, or are negative reviews so much more entertaining than a neverending stream or positivity?!)

'Tuesday Tips' will be very much welcomed back by me, as I always enjoyed those posts :) & I am always a huge fan of your nails, so tutorial posts would be great (although I'm never brave enough to try them out - I still like reading/watching them, just in case one day I bite the bullet!)

  34. What a cute pic! Gemster, Disqus is such a dream to install and it makes replying to comments a bajillion times easier and it catches the dreaded the spam. 37. What a gorgeous sketch, it really is super lovely! I think you have a gorgeous figure and don't need to loose any weight but it's always important to be healthy and not go mad on the sweet food I suppose!! Looking forward to seeing your new blog topics and new design (if you decide to go that way - I think it's great as it is)! All the best for 2011, I hope you have a more successful year than the last!

  38. great sketch, how flattering & lovely to receive your own portrait!

great blog resolutions, look forward to seeing how your projects develop over the year! its so easy to drown in a sea of unanswered comments & i don't have nearly as many followers as you...i'm sure people understand you can't always reply to every comment or it's all you'd ever do!

you have a lovely figure & all your clothes suit & really flatter you...you really don't look like you need to lose any weight but its a question of how you feel, so if you'd feel better, go for it!

very good to hear you haven't had 'troll' trouble...i haven't on my blog but i have on formspring, via email & on my boys blog! (& all from the one person i'm assuming). luckily i have a very thick skin & actually find the comments amusing but it must be so upsetting for others.

i think my blog resolution is quite simply to post more. anyway, apologies for the massive comment! happy new year! :)

  43. Aw, I like your blog and your voice so much (writing voice I mean, I haven't been hiding in bushes listening to your actual voice). I think your resolutions sound great, I'm busy formulating some blog resolutions myself...

Another thing: I honestly (am not being a sycophantic follower here) don't think you need to do anything about your weight. I wouldn't even have thought you were a 10-12 in any photos, you always look slim and über chic. Bring on the outfit posts whatever happens in that department!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Also, was a big fan of Tuesday Tips and that other feature where you bash things other bloggers drool over. Am considering starting one of those myself! I feel there's enough bashing to go around! ; D

  49. Oh what a lovely sketch - such a nice thing for her to do for you!

I really like your blog resolutions. I'm looking muchly forward to the Naughty Step feature. Don't tie yourself down to too many different features though - I sometimes feel that the blogs that do that can feel a bit stilted and there's no real room for spontaneous rambly posts (my fave kind!).

    ReplyDelete
  50. THat sketch is adorable! I feel the same about the losing some weight, I know everyone has it as their new years resolution but it's exactly why i won't do outfit posts nor wear anything remotely tight or clingy in the middle! I feel like I'd be much more outgoing fashion wise if I was slimmer, or more toned (or you know, both!). Maybe a few more balance games on the wii fit and I'll have the body of Halle Berry yeah?!

  51. I have some of the same problems you have. I always feel like it would really help me if I lost weight to be a better style blogger, but I just don't feel like the world should be that way! But having a little extra to love on you can limit your style options, I have the same stomach problems. As far as comments, I never go back to blogs to check to see if my comments have been responded to. It would be wayyyy to complicated to keep track. I also hate the short little "visit my blog!" comments. Blogging is not just about getting attention. It's not really your fault, I think it's mostly Blogger's fault for not coming up with a better system.
