Dissertation Doom

Arrrgh!!

I hate that I haven't posted up my weekend away pics yet and haven't caught up with all of your blogs in ages!

I have been casually ignoring the fact I need to hand in a 5000 word dissertation draft this Friday (the real deal is due in January and is 8-10,000 words). Well I have been doing loads of reading on it but forgot I actually had to write some stuff too! All in all my life has gone a bit mental this week, as I try and get this thing typed up! I've been so stressed out that I've been turning to downing handfuls of my trusty Bach rescue remedy pastilles! I can't tell for sure if they work, but I'm guessing that by deeming it appropriate to post a little blog when I've only done 1600 words means I'm pretty chilled out. Ha!

I'm going to get cracking now. For those that are interested, my dissertation question is:

'Free Speech: How fashion bloggers demonstrate postmodernism and influence their readers and in turn the modernist mainstream fashion media.'

It doesn't really make much sense as a title, but the dissertation itself is shaping up to be quite interesting, if I may say so myself! I Just need to resist the urge to slam my head in the laptop and maintain a bright outlook!

See you in 3400 words time!

Missing you! ♥

  1. Mine is doing my head in too, along with the critical analysis I have to do which holds the same weight as my dissertation, the 2000 word investigative journalism project I have, a 1000 legal essay and weekly homework assignments *wimper*

  9. O bless your heart! Sounds like your week has been just as hectic as mine! Just realised I've got three big deadlines in the next three weeks as well as dissertation research/writing to do....and people say students don't do any work!

  10. Good luck getting it done lovely.

Do those rescue pastilles taste like ass? they were recommended to me, but I can't imagine them being palatable.

  11. Ooooh good luck with your dissertation! I'm in the middle of mine just now and literally said 5 minutes ago if I read the word postmodernism one more time i'm chucking myself out the window ha...xx

  12. I still remember the mental auguish I suffered when I wrote my dissertation and that was years ago now. My project had a fancy schmancy sounding title as well...'Is Blade Runner a postmodern film or a film about the condition of postmodernity?'. The posh title was probably chosen to make it sound a lot more interesting than it actually was! LOL

Keep up the good work! :)

  16. Wow your diss sounds really interesting - good luck :) And don't worry it always seems like loads of words at the time but once you get into it you always end up writing way too much without realising. My diss was 10,000 words and I ended up having to cut 5,000 - bad times ha x

  17. Aw good luck hun, I remember the last week of mine a few years ago - I survived on black coffee and pick & mix. I know it probably feels like you'll never finish (well that's how I felt with mine) but it'll all come together! Least you've got an exciting title/topic! x

  18. Good luck with it Gem! My third year uni house survived 5 of us pulling coffee and Cadburys Fingers-fuelled all-nighters - we all did well! You've got loads of time to get it finished :)

  22. Urgh, tell me about it. I'm writing a 5000 word essay on Mozart and the masonic influences in his music. Don't get me wrong, I love my title (well, I did write it...) and I love the topic, but writing that much is just making me want to hit myself in the face with the keyboard!

So I have a lot of sympathy! Good luck!

  25. Aaaah! That subculture book brings back horrible memories of my own dissertation writing! I had it on constant loan for about a year.

I love the sound of your dissertation - mine was about fashion perpetuating subcultures. I loved writing it!

    Good luck! xx

  26. Good luck. I remember how much of a headache my dissertation was, although mine involved more design than words. Specifically chosen because a 9,000 word dissertation would have just killed me!

Your disso does sound really interesting, I hope you can find some enjoyment out of doing it!

  27. good luck writing your dissertation!

just spotted dick hebdige's book on subculture there... i did a presentation about one of his quotes earlier on in the year and me and my friends decided to dress up for the occasion.. i went as goth and my friends went all punk and new romantic! i think it scored us a few extra marks considering we all managed to get graded with a 1st!

  44. Oh Gem, I know what you mean. Dissertations kinda loom at the back of your head like a big ugly looming thing. The more they do it, the more you ignore it.

I really can’t wait for you to feel that relief. There’s nothing that quite compares to it at all. Good luck hon.
